Accomplishments

As issues arise that concern the industrial community, SAMA will always try to act in the interest of our membership. Major accomplishments have included:

Programs

Manufacturing Techonology Academy (MTA). A 2 year education, training, and apprenticeship program that prepares high school graduates for technically skilled employment opportunities in the manufacturing industry.

Industrial Products & Services Trade Show. An annual trade show providing the opportunity to showcase state-of-the-art products and services from local and regional exhibitors.

Special Interest Groups. Member groups in the areas of Plant Operations, Marketing & Sales, and Self-Managed Work Teams meet periodically to exchange information and share ideas.

Education and Training Task Force. Vehicle by which members identify specific training needs by local manufacturers. This group led to the establishment of the Manufacturing Technology Academy.

Utility/Government Agency Efforts

Assured that proposed utility rates were based on cost of service and were equitable for industrial, commercial and residential customers.
Worked with SAWS officials to revise the industrial wastewater local pollutant discharge standards that are fair and equitable to the industrial community.
Because of SAMA's efforts, City Council approved an economic development package that included a Super Large Power (SLP) electrical rate which resulted in a 10% annual savings for the large electrical users, plus modification to the Large Power Time of Use rates and interruptible riders.
Initiated a CPS study that resulted in an equitable rate for large natural gas users and an 8.6% reduction in the "large volume" natural gas rate.
