Members,

I just wanted to let you know our Chair, Dave Campbell, and staff had a teleconference meeting this morning where we discussed the coronavirus, SAMA operations, and our members.  We also discussed national and local news affecting our nation and regional community.  As you know, our members, their families, and the community are our primary concerns and were the main points of our discussion. Here are some highlights for you:

  1. Today, at 2:30 pm, CST, Governor Gregg Abbott and Mayor Ron Nirenberg will have a news conference on the coronavirus and impacts on our community. The conference will be on local channels and live-streamed
  2. Nationally, over 3,800 cases in the US and over 65 deaths reported
  3. CDC states are urging people across the nation to cancel or postpone events with 50 or more attendees for the next eight weeks in an effort to contain the coronavirus
  4. National, and state, medical authorities are conveying to know the difference between the coronavirus and allergies.  Sneezing could mean allergies, fevers mean the flu to include the coronavirus
  5. Schools in the area are cancelled.  Recommend you check your school’s ISD website for details
  6. “House of Representatives Passes Far-Ranging Paid Sick and Family Leave Legislation for Workers Impacted by COVID-19.” Currently, the house legislation is at the Senate where they are reviewing it and are concerned about the ramifications to businesses. www.dykema.com/resources-alerts-house_of_representatives_passes_far_ranging_paid_sick_and_family_leave_legislation_for_workers_impacted_by_covid_19.html 
  7. SAMA operations – will remain open, from 7 am till 3 pm.  A few of us will work from home and with our new phone system, we will answer calls till 4 pm

SAMA events and committee meetings – the April 7th luncheon is canceled and the “Surviving and Thriving in Challenging Times” panel discussion will be held on June 2nd.  Refunds will be done per request or transferred to the June luncheon.  The following events will go as scheduled and will be monitored weekly:

  1. April 14th SAMA Trade Show Exhibitor training
  2. April 23rd SAMA Safety Seminar
  3. April 17th Annual SAMA Spring Fling
  4. May 6th Trade Show and Conference
  5. May 21st SAMA & BoA “Recruiting, Retaining and Growing Talent

Board and Committee Meetings – most are canceled to include the April 7th Board Meeting.  The following March committee meetings will be done by teleconference:

  1. March 17th Trade Show Committee
  2. March 24th Executive Committee
  3. March 25th Program Committee

Lastly, SAMA will be creating a survey for our members asking thoughts on the following:

  1. Assistance needed
  2. Event rescheduling

The survey should be out this week.
